Myrtle Beach Things You Can Do Outside With Kids

Planning your next vacation to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina? You’re in luck! There’s so much to see and do, no matter what you and your family are interested in. One of the hardest things about planning a vacation is coming up with activities that the whole family will enjoy, even the kids. Luckily, there are tons of fun outside things to do in Myrtle Beach that the whole group will love. Here are a few of our favorite outdoor attractions in the area, all located near our Myrtle Beach rentals.

Brookgreen Gardens

At Brookgreen Gardens, the tagline says it all: “Ever Changing. Simply Amazing.” This location has everything you could want in an outdoor paradise, from Botanical Gardens and American sculptures to the Lowcountry History and Wildlife Preserve and the Lowcountry Zoo. The Botanical Gardens contain more than 7,000 acres of natural and cultivated landscape, with something breathtaking blooming all year long! You’ll also want to visit the sculpture garden, which is the largest and most comprehensive collection of American figurative sculptures in the country. You’ll find more than 2,000 works by 430 artists!

The Lowcountry History and Wildlife Preserve is great for the history buff and nature lover in your group. There are thousands of acres for you to explore and observe the native plants and animals and the rice plantations of the 1800s. Finally, be sure to bring your kids to the Lowcountry Zoo, which is one of the five institutions accredited by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums in South Carolina. Each resident has either been bred or raised in captivity or sustained a major disability. Brookgreen Gardens is incredibly budget-friendly, as adult tickets are just $18 and children get in for just $10. You can truly spend an entire day exploring this attraction!

Go Ape Zipline

If you’ve got a family full of adrenaline junkies, you’ll definitely want to add Go Ape Zipline to your itinerary. This unparalleled outdoor adventure experience is one of the best Myrtle Beach attractions for kids, as there are zipline sections for any age or experience level. The original Treetop Adventure is a two- to three-hour experience that takes you along tree-to-tree crossings high up in the canopy. You could also opt for the Treetop Journey, which is the ideal introduction to ziplining. This one-hour adventure allows you to navigate suspended bridges and obstacles, all while getting up close and personal with nature.

If you want something even more thrilling, try the Monkey Drop! You’ll be connected to a jump line and will take a dive off the wooden platform 40 feet up in the air! Don’t feel like ziplining? You can still visit Go Ape! They have an outdoor ax-throwing attraction where you can compete with your group during a one-hour session and see who can get the bullseye. Go Ape offers several options for you and your family to get your exercise, enjoy nature, and satisfy your need for a thrill.

Myrtle Beach Zipline Adventures

For even more zip lining fun, bring your group to Myrtle Beach Zipline Adventures. The main attraction here is the Adventure Matrix, a show-stopping course that it has been dubbed the Ultimate Aerial Adventure in Myrtle Beach. This incredible attraction is complete with more than 50 elements plus the extreme ziplines, ideal for those looking to really get their adrenaline going! Come during the day to put some thrill in the middle of your other activities, or visit around sunset to climb up to the top and get an unmatched view of the sky.

Ziplining isn’t the only thing you’ll find here. Myrtle Beach Ziplines has also hosted the Carolina Country Music Fest, often called the East Coast’s best outdoor country music event. The festival takes place right on the beach next to Myrtle Beach Ziplines, so you’ll have an incredible view of all of the acts below. For 2020, children ages 4 to 10 cost $29.95 each, and children ages 7 to 10 cost $59.95 each. You can participate in the Rip-Tide Extreme Challenge for $69.95 each, or go for the Extreme Ziplines for $59.95.

Take your family to new heights (literally!) at Radical Ropes Adventure Park. This is another great spot to try some extreme zip lining, but that’s not all you’ll find. Radical Ropes is also home to an Aerial Adventure Park, kids’ course, and a climbing wall with a Leap of Faith. If you choose to zipline, you’ll be taken through the treetops of a 5-acre forest complete with breathtaking views of the ocean. This is a good option for groups with older children, as you must be at least 10 years old to participate.

Even if you have younger kids, you can still enjoy Radical Ropes! The Aerial Adventure Park is great for anyone 7 years of age or older and will put your physical skills to the test in a beautiful natural seaside setting. Spend your 2.5-hour adventure heading up to the level 3 aerial course! Kids ages 4 to 10 will love the kids’ course, complete with zip lines and obstacles to suit children of all skill levels. Staff will keep your kids safe and secure while they’re having the time of their lives! Finally, let out your competitive side by challenging your friends at the climbing wall, then jump down the 70-foot Leap of Faith!

Alligator Adventure

If you’ve ever wanted to find yourself face-to-face with one of nature’s fiercest and most beautiful animals, head to Barefoot Landing to experience Alligator Adventure! Alligator Adventure has been named the reptile capital of the world and is one of the largest facilities on the planet for reptile life. Not only will you find the American alligators you’re probably used to, but you’ll also see albino alligators as well as other wildlife like Bobcats, Chilean flamingos, various frog species, macaws, turtles, and so much more!

From mid-April through mid-October, you can watch the staff feed the alligators right in front of you! In the cooler months, you can still listen to one of the trained lecturers talk about these incredible creatures, and you can even touch the alligators and get your picture taken with them! If alligators aren’t quite your speed, head to the Amphitheatre to learn more about snakes! Admission for adults is $27.99 each, children ages 4 to 12 get in for $19.99, and children under 3 are free. Discounts are available for seniors and military members.
